April 2009 — Issue #1

Welcome to the first issue of hopefully many more regular or most likely, semi-irregular issues of the Columbine Label Sticky Note – a news-note. Our goal with this endeavor, is to provide a brief and hopefully entertaining view of news and events in the world around us and specifically things that impact our business, our friends, our customers, and prospective customers. So here goes. BTW, let us know what you think.
I know a good many of you, yet there are many of you that I haven’t met or spoken with, so lets start a few years back and catch up. Who’s this from?
I’m Greg Jackson, President of Columbine Label. My wife Judy and I purchased Columbine Label in February of 1999, from the Hallfords who founded the company in 1988. So while we just celebrated our 10 year anniversary, Columbine Label is in its 21st year. Ten of our current fifteen employees, have been with the company for nine years or more, so the ownership change may have seemed somewhat transparent. I started in the label business in 1990, with Avery Dennison on the base materials side of the business, and during the mid ‘90’s Columbine was a customer of mine, via Avery Dennison.
In 2004, we decided that in order to further grow the company, we needed more space and more power and more equipment. So we purchased property in the Southeast metro area and began the brain damaging process of dealing with the county to build our current facility. While I don’t have any regrets, it was an arduous process to say the least. You can find pictures and a rolling sequence of the build out on our website, on the “contact us” page. (The Long Horns still reside next door.) We finally completed and moved into our new digs in January 2006.
In both 2006 and 2007 we purchased new state of the art press equipment, extending our capabilities to 8 colors. And in 2009, it is our goal to help our customers and ourselves, to not participate in the current economic woes! (The shorter the history, the less boring…right?)
So to get started on that goal, the homework (workwork?) is to check out our new website and find out how to get cash back. www.columbinelabel.com
We hope you enjoyed our first news note. Tune in again next month.
